About Rodney
Hi, I’m Rodney!
I feel that I didn’t choose the mental health profession, but rather, the mental health profession chose me.
Ever since I was a young man, I’ve always felt a great deal of concern and compassion for people in my community; I’ve always wanted to help those who needed help the most—people living through personal and social struggles; the ones who are abused, disenfranchised, and marginalized.
I’ve felt like I was already deeply involved in social work even before getting my degree. I originally wanted to be an executive director for a non-profit, so I was majoring in social work. However, after participating in my first therapy work in graduate school where I got the chance to work with kids, I knew right away that it was what I should be doing. So I did.
I’m still doing it some twenty years later.
I have accomplished a lot and helped many people in those twenty years. I’ve worked with people of all ages from all walks of life—individuals, children, families; I’ve worked in a private practice, in-patient facilities, crisis centers, group homes; I’ve worked everywhere from the inner cities to the suburbs to Liberia in West Africa—where I worked with The Carter Center and Liberian Ministry of Health to train over 200 mental health clinicians to be proficient in providing therapy work, as well as aid the Liberian Ministry in developing their mental health policy.
I am a licensed clinical social worker in Florida and California. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science from San Jose State University and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California School of Social Work.
Through my professional therapy and counseling practice, I hope to help you cultivate your own personal source of strength and resilience.
